The Shamrock home is treating us well! ;)
We are officially home owners! Such a crazy thought! So far, it's been wonderful, but also proven to be very challenging, as expected. No one is going to mow the lawn for us. When the dishwasher refuses to clean your dishes or your shower head leaks constantly in a methodical drip that hypnotizes you, you can't call your landlord to replace them (true stories). It's up to us now.
But Will has put on his Superman suit and really taken the "Google handyman" role! No kidding, he finds anything and everything online! But it works and he's learning as he goes.

I, for one, am so incredibly excited to begin renovations and cosmetic updates to this home! It has so much potential! The inspector said the house structure is sound, there's just a few small things that he recommended we do but nothing huge really. What a blessing. This home was built in '77 and it appears no one really updated anything except for the wall paint in the living areas and new flooring in the kitchen/dining. It looks like everything else is original. But what fun for us! Want to see some pictures?

I hope to be able to post before and after photos of our projects as we do them. I'd love to be one of those housewife professional DIY blogger ladies who somehow finds time to do home improvement projects and take pictures throughout and then create constant blog posts of step-by-step instructions that are then Pinned 200k times on Pinterest and maybe even have a personal DIY YouTube channel. Then again, I probably wouldn't like that. Because honestly, I'm too busy for that. And I'm not doing this for others... just for our family. And no one needs to know exactly what brand of paint I used on my kitchen cabinets. Seriously. This is for us. I'd like to do before and after more for our own memories especially to share with our children someday. I'm more excited about the learning process and seeing the progress then receiving any sort of accolades from my peers.
We've already seen such a big improvement in the look of the home after we spent a good 12 hours of cleaning this place top to bottom (with help from my AMAZING mother!). This place appears to not have been really cleaned for probably a decade. That was a fun few days of work. But it looks a lot better now. I still can't go barefoot very long on these carpets... who knows what is on them after 40 years... bleh. That's high on the priority list.
We have set up a special checking account just for the home improvement and gardening/landscaping projects we have in mind. We'll put a certain amount of money aside each month and work with that, cash flowing things as we have the money. Plus, we're paying quadruple on our home mortgage right now to pay it off sooner. Will and I are goal setting people and we have a lot of exciting things heading our way.
Stay tuned for more exciting episodes from "Casa de Wainwrights!"
